A man is facing charges after authorities said dozens of 50-gallon drums containing industrial car cleaner were dumped into a storm drain at an Oakland Park business.
Gonzalo Javier Paul, 42, was arrested Wednesday on a charge of littering over 500 pounds, Broward jail records showed.
According to an arrest report, a deputy responded to the business in the 3700 block of Northeast 3rd Avenue for a call regarding a man dumping hazardous material down the storm drain.
An Oakland Park Fire captain told the deputy he saw an employee standing next to 38 50-gallon drums behind the business near the storm drain, with several drums tipped over and spilling an unknown fluid into the drain while others were empty, the report said.
The captain identified the content of the drums as automobile care products including tire/wheel cleaner, glass cleaner and waterless hyper concentrated car wash.
Investigators determined Paul had instructed the employee to “discharge over thirty-eight drums of industrial car care cleaner into the storm drain,” the report said.
Paul was booked into jail. Attorney information wasn’t available.
