If you’re a high school football team within the Florida High School Athletic Association’s (FHSAA) Class 1A, Region 2 bracket, you’ll have to wait to find out where you’re seeded or if you made the playoffs.
The FHSAA announced the delay of Class 1A, Region 2 bracket due to legal action by a unnamed member school during their livestream via YouTube of the high school football bracket release show. Just before the show started at 1 p.m., which was originally scheduled to air at 12 p.m., Orange County Judge Margaret H. Schreiber temporarily lifted the playoff ban imposed by the FHSAA on The First Academy on Thursday morning.
“It’s frustrating with the timing of this,” Clearwater Central Catholic head coach Chris Harvey said to Rivals on Thursday afternoon.
Harvey’s Marauders are currently ranked as the No. 1 team in Class 1A, Region 2.
The Gainesville-based association posted on the screen the following message regarding the delay of Class 1A, Region 2 football playoff bracket/region quarterfinal matchups.
“DUE TO LEGAL ACTION FILED BY INDIVIDUALS AFFILIATED WITH A MEMBER SCHOOL, THE CLASS 1A, REGION 2 BRACKET WILL NOT BE INCLUDED IN THIS RELEASE AND WILL BE ANNOUNCED AT A LATER DATE TO BE DETERMINED. WE APOLOGIZE FOR THE INCONVENIENCE.”

Now it’s a wait and see for The First Academy, as they finished the regular season with a 5-5 record after defeating last year’s Class 5A runnerup Lakeland, 35-28 at Bryant Stadium. The Royals, per the FHSAA Rankings, are listed No. 4 in Class 1A, Region 2, as of the latest ratings.
Recently, attorney Paul Aloise Jr., one of two lawyers that is representing a group of Royals players, filed for an emergency temporary injunction in an attempt to reverse the program’s two-year playoff ban that was imposed on The First Academy by the FHSAA.
Per USA Today’s Jon Santucci, a lawyer representing The First Academy’s players said that the 1A-Region 2 bracket could be delayed until after a hearing on Monday.
The FHSAA playoffs is set to start next week, with region quarterfinal games possibly set to kickoff on Thursday, Nov. 13, but the majority being played on Friday, Nov. 14.
