RUSK, Texas — The bonds for the man accused of shooting a Jacksonville police officer have been set at $1.3 million after an arraignment hearing Thursday morning.
Bobby Michael Dennis, who was captured and arrested Wednesday night after an over three-day manhunt, was arraigned before Precinct 1 Justice of the Peace Brenda Dominy Thursday.
Dennis was read his rights and the charges against him, including attempted capital murder of a peace officer, interference with police service animal and two counts of obstruction or retaliation.
His bonds were set at $1 million for attempted capital murder of a peace officer, $150,000 for one obstruction charge, $50,000 for the other obstruction charge and $100,000 for the interference with police service animal charge. Officials said he also has an ATF hold and he will be extradited to a location that’s unknown at this time.
During the hearing, Dennis could be heard repeatedly saying that, “all judges have been dissolved under President Donald Trump and Attorney General Pam Bondi” and this is an illegal government. He also made claims of being an American Indian.
Dennis spoke over the judge multiple times, and he often continued speaking despite Cherokee County Sheriff Brent Dickson warning him that anything he said can be used against in a court of law.
On Wednesday night, multiple law enforcement agencies assisted Jacksonville PD in arresting Dennis at a property on CR 3509 West of Jacksonville city limits in Cuney. He was located in a wooded area and surrendered to law enforcement without further incident.
Police discovered a construction in the woods they believe was being used by Dennis as a makeshift bunker. A 9mm handgun was discovered in that location.
Police believe Dennis received help from others while evading law enforcement. Charges are expected for those aiding in hiding him from police, Jacksonville Police Chief Steven Markasy said.
The Jacksonville police officer who was hurt in the shooting is recovering after suffering a gunshot wound to her arm and leg. Police believe Dennis to have fired approximately 20 rounds in the attack. Her K-9 unit, “Renzo,” received treatment at a vet and is currently being taken care of by a Jacksonville PD officer.
