SARASOTA, Fla. (WWSB) – A woman in Port Charlotte was tased by a sheriff’s deputy Aug. 10 after she allegedly threatened a deputy with a knife.
Charlotte County Sheriffs Office deputies were investigating the theft and burglary of a vehicle in Port Charlotte when they spotted a woman running away from the area.
According to a probable cause affidavit, a deputy gave chase and ordered the woman to stop. He observed the woman, later identified as Olesya A. Trukhan, 33, pulling on the door handle of another vehicle.
He again ordered her to stop, but Trukhan fled again into the yard of a home on Ladner Avenue, the affidavit said.

As the deputy continued to chase her, “Trukhan was armed with a fixed blade knife with her right hand out in front of her body and assumed a fighting stance,” the affidavit said.
Trukhan turned to run again, but the deputy deployed his Taser, causing Trukhan to fall to the ground.
Other deputies arrived to secure Trukhan in handcuffs and take her into custody.
After treatment at a hospital, Trukhan reportedly told deputies she had quit her job that morning and armed herself with a knife because she believed she was being followed by unidentified people.
Trukhan was charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon without intent to kill.
