ORLANDO, Fla. — Numerous local businesses and organizations in Central Florida have announced donation drives to help victims of Monday’s 7.4 magnitude earthquake in Colombia.
The earthquake collapsed buildings in parts of the country. So far, the death toll has hit more than 180, and up to 3,800 people could be missing, based upon civilian-run databases.
The following is a list of times and places where people can make donations, and what kinds of items are needed:
Where: Las Palmas Restaurant — 14525 S. Orange Blossom Trail, Orlando
When: Wednesday Aug. 12, 9 a.m. – 6 p.m.
Supplies needed:
Canned goods and refreshments
Personal hygiene and household items
Items for babies and pets
Sleeping bags, blankets, tents, tarps, inflatable mattresses
Flashlights, batteries, can openers
Kid and adult diapers
Organizers say that medicine and clothing are not items currently needed to help earthquake victims in Colombia.
Where: Conexus Workspace — 2419 Lake Orange Dr. #120, Orlando
When: Aug. 11-14, 9 a.m. – 3 p.m.
Supplies needed:

Personal hygiene and household items
Blankets, tents, tarps, inflatable mattresses

When: Tuesday through Friday, Aug. 14
Supplies needed:
Nonperishable food
Medications (Tylenol, ibuprofen, etc.)
Medical supplies (gauze, Isodine, cotton, etc.)
Pet food
Shelter items (tents, blankets, flashlights, shovels, inflatable mattresses)
Organizers ask that all boxes be separated by product type.
Where: Mecatos Cafe (All Central Florida locations)
When: Now through Friday, Aug. 14 (Missed Friday? On Saturday starting at 9 a.m., you can drop off items at Park of the Americas — 201 Andes Ave., Orlando)
Supplies needed:

Where: Hope Partnership, Hope Connections — 122 W. Sproule Ave., Kissimmee (Organized by Alianza Center Florida)
