On the title track from his 2005 album South of the South, songwriter David Dondero laments the changes happening in Ybor City, which at the time was welcoming big box stores like Urban Outfitters and Victoria’s Secret along with a movie theater.
The 57-year-old is skipping that part of town altogether for his latest local gig, this time opting for a house show in Seminole Heights just a stone’s throw from the Hillsborough River and a few blocks from Bo’s Ice Cream.
The venue choice is no surprise—he recently played St. Pete’s Kerouac House—and the setlist should be packed with plenty of familiar material for fans who’ve followed the former punk drummer (read: This Bike Is A Pipe Bomb) since his 1999 solo debut, The Pity Party, all the way to his 11th studio LP in 2023, Immersion Therapy.
There’s a suggested donation of $20 for the David Dondero house show in Tampa on Friday, Aug. 14. Look up @devon.brady.58 on Facebook to figure out the exact address.
