Rays to announce a firm to manage ballpark construction

The Tampa Bay Rays next week will select a firm they want to manage the construction of their proposed $2.3 billion stadium project.

The team announced Thursday it will hold a public meeting next Monday and will unveil the names of the firms that submitted a request to take on the project.

The team will then announce its final decision.

When the Rays announced they were opening the search, they said they were looking for a firm that could have the stadium ready to occupy by Dec. 31, 2028, as part of the team’s timeline to have the ballpark ready for the 2029 season.

The construction manager selected would only be responsible for the stadium — not the proposed surrounding development.

The selection of a construction manager comes without a final agreement in place.

Talks surrounding the stadium agreement have stalled as the city and Hillsborough County look into the impact the proposed property tax amendment could have on the project.
