ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. (WWSB) – Ladavion King, the man previously identified by police as the suspect in the fatal shooting of a St. Petersburg sanitation worker, was released from the Lee County Jail on Wednesday night and transferred directly into the custody of the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office, jail records show.
King, 43, was released at 7:25 p.m. Aug. 13, according to the jail record. He had been booked into the Lee County Jail July 24. He remains in custody ahead of a first hearing scheduled for Aug. 24.
St. Petersburg police previously said King was accused of fatally shooting a 47-year-old city sanitation technician while she was inside her work vehicle July 22 in the 4100 block of 12th Avenue South.

Police said King and the victim knew each other and described the shooting as targeted. Investigators had not released a motive.
Authorities said King fled south from St. Petersburg before Florida Highway Patrol troopers attempted to stop him. The Lee County Sheriff’s Office said King later barricaded himself inside a vehicle near mile marker 126 on Interstate 75 in Lee County.
Deputies took King into custody after he refused to comply with commands, the sheriff’s office said. FHP previously said King was hospitalized with serious injuries. No law enforcement officers were hurt.
The Lee County Jail record lists the following charges: attempted homicide, discharging a firearm from a vehicle, possession of a weapon or ammunition by a convicted Florida felon, and fleeing or eluding law enforcement with lights and siren active. FHP is listed as the arresting agency.
A first hearing is scheduled for 8:30 a.m. Aug. 24, according to the jail record. The record also lists an out-of-county warrant associated with Pinellas County.
