TALLAHASSEE, Fla. — A 28-year-old man from Dixon, Tennessee, has been indicted in federal court on charges of arson and interstate travel in aid of a racketeering enterprise, according to federal prosecutors in North Florida.

Ian Nathaniel Grice was indicted in the Northern District of Florida, U.S. Attorney John P. Heekin announced. Grice appeared in federal court for his arraignment before U.S. Magistrate Judge Martin A. Fitzpatrick in Tallahassee.

Court records show the charges stem from a 2024 arson fire of the historic “Exchange Building” in downtown Tallahassee. The building at the time housed a federally-chartered bank.

A jury trial is scheduled for Sept. 21, 2026, at 8:30 a.m. before U.S. District Court Judge Mark E. Walker in Tallahassee.

If convicted, Grice faces five years and up to 20 years in prison on the arson count. He faces up to five years in prison on the interstate travel in aid of a racketeering enterprise count.

The case is being investigated by the Florida Department of Law Enforcement, the Federal Bureau of Investigation, the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, the Tallahassee Police Department, and the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation, with assistance from the Florida Department of Financial Services, Division of Investigative and Forensic Services. The case is being prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Eric W. Welch.

Federal prosecutors emphasized that an indictment is an allegation by a grand jury and is not evidence of guilt. Grice is presumed innocent unless proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt.

The case is part of the National Security Presidential Memorandum 7 initiative, described as a White House-directed, interagency effort to integrate federal, state and local partners in protecting First Amendment rights while targeting individuals and organizations engaged in political violence. The initiative is led by the investigative and prosecutorial Joint Task Force Vanguard.
