Uber passenger accused of beating driver, stealing car in Fort Pierce
Charges against Daniel Presume are carjacking, battery, fleeing and eluding, grand theft.
FORT PIERCE, Fla. —
A 25-year-old man is accused of beating an Uber driver and stealing the car, Fort Pierce police said.
On Wednesday, officers responded to the area of South 25th Street and Virginia Avenue regarding a reported carjacking involving an Uber driver.
The investigation revealed that the passenger allegedly struck the driver multiple times, causing him to exit the vehicle. The suspect then took the Tesla Model Y.
An officer quickly located the stolen vehicle traveling on Virginia Avenue and attempted a traffic stop.
The driver initially failed to stop but was taken into custody a short time later after the vehicle came to a stop on Oleander Boulevard.
The suspect, identified as Daniel Presume, was arrested and faces charges of carjacking, battery, fleeing and eluding, and grand theft.
He was taken to the St. Lucie County Jail, and was being held on $55,000 bond.
