Man accused of using propane tank to break into Stuart smoke shop arrested a year later

STUART, Fla. (CBS12) — A man accused of using a propane tank to break into a smoke shop a little over a year ago has been arrested.

According to the Stuart Police Department, officers responded to a local smoke shop on Aug. 10, 2025, after a man tried to break into the business. Police say surveillance video showed a man repeatedly trying to force his way inside, first using a propane tank to smash the front window and later attempting to break and pry through the broken glass.

Police say the suspect managed to get away but left behind blood evidence.

Police say officers collected several DNA samples from the scene and submitted them for forensic testing, but no match was found in the database. A year later, DNA connected to the suspect was entered into the database following a crime committed in another area.

On July 13, Stuart police detectives identified the suspect as Corbin Thomas Smart, 30, of Stuart.

In August, Smart was charged with burglary of an unoccupied structure while unarmed and possession of burglary tools.
