PUNTA GORDA — A Broward County man made a phone call from the back seat of a trooper’s patrol car, telling someone he had drugs hidden hidden in a kids backpack in his car, reports show.

Javed Assif Chambers, 31, of Plantation, Florida, is charged with trafficking in methamphetamine, possession of methamphetamine with intent to sell, possession of controlled substance, and possession of drug paraphernalia, according to court records released Tuesday.
Trooper J.A. Rivera of the Florida Highway Patrol was on patrol Tuesday night on Interstate 75 near Punta Gorda. At about 8:20 p.m., he saw a Honda with “excessive window tint and tinted windshield,” and pulled over the car.
Chambers was the driver.
After giving Chambers a warning for a tint violation and for not having his license with him, the trooper asked if there was anything illegal in the car, including drugs, the reports state.
“Javed’s behavior changed when I began asking him about drugs, his eyes opened big when I started mentioning the type of drugs,” the trooper reported.
Rivera asked for permission to search the car. Chambers said no.
The trooper got his K-9 Loki out of his patrol car, and Loki alerted to the presence of drugs in the vehicle, reports show.
The trooper asked Chambers to sit in the back seat of his patrol car while he searched the Honda.
While the trooper was searching his car, Chambers made a phone call that was captured on the trooper’s in-car camera. The trooper reported the conversation:
“He asked me if I had drugs in the car and all of that, that’s crazy. And this is a big charge again — bro. It is literally in the kids bag, in the backseat, I am screwed. I am going to jail, bro,” Chambers said.
During his search, Rivera found baggies of “a large amount” of methamphetamines in a green Minecraft backpack in the car, reports show.
Rivera arrested Chambers and booked him into the Charlotte County Jail on Tuesday night. Chambers remained in jail Wednesday with a bond set at $276,000.
