‘Smoky odor’ turns Delta flight from Atlanta to Fort Lauderdale around

The flight Thursday landed normally back in Atlanta without incident, Delta said.

ATLANTA — A “smoky odor” caused a Delta flight from Atlanta to Florida to turn around Thursday morning, the company said.

The Fort Lauderdale-bound flight landed back in Atlanta safely without incident, Delta said in a statement.

“The flight crew followed established procedures, and the aircraft landed normally without incident,” Delta said. “Nothing is more important than the safety of our customers and crew, and we apologize to our customers for the delay in their travels.”

Data from FlightAware indicates the flight was rescheduled to take off just before 10 a.m.

It comes after another flight last weekend to Florida, bound for Orlando, returned to Atlanta after takeoff due to fumes that were reported in the cockpit.
