Last night the Cincinnati Reds got another brilliant start from Chase Burns. That led to a 1-0 win over the Miami Marlins to start the 3-game weekend series. Tonight the two clubs are back on the field at Great American Ball Park and the Reds will be trying to secure a series victory while the Marlins look to even things up. First pitch this evening is scheduled for 6:40pm ET.

Brady Singer
Ever since the start of June we’ve seen a healthier and better performing version of Singer. He’s made 12 starts since then and posted a 3.54 ERA during that time. He hasn’t quite been that good of late, but has had back-to-back quality starts and five of them in his last six starts.
The splits for Singer are big. Left-handed hitters have a high average and they are showing plenty of power when facing him. Right-handed hitters are making a ton of contact against him but don’t turn that into many hits and they are only showing mediocre power against him. Not shown below is that his home ERA is 3.53, compared to 5.75 on the road this season.

Ryan Gusto
The season has been split between Triple-A and MLB for Gusto. He made just one relief appearance in the first two months of the season with Miami, otherwise he was pitching in Triple-A Jacksonville. But he returned to the big leagues in June and he’s been there ever since – mostly as a starter but he did pitch a few games in relief. Only two of his starts have reached 5.0 innings, but those two have come in his last three games.
The splits against Gusto in the big leagues this season favor left-handed hitters. They hit for a good average, walk at an average rate, make plenty of contact, and hit for a solid amount of power. Right-handed hitters hit for a solid average and show mediocre power, but they almost never walk and they don’t make too much contact.
