ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. (WFLA) — Waymo, a company known for its driverless taxi services, may be coming to St. Petersburg.

According to a public information officer with the city of St. Petersburg, Waymo reached out earlier this week to schedule a meeting with St. Pete’s Transportation department for August 11.

The PIO said that the meeting was the first conversation the city has had with Waymo representatives and that during the meeting, the company expressed interest in expanding its operations into Pinellas County.

The PIO also said that Waymo is looking to hold an initial meet-and-greet with the city but provided no further details on when that might take place.

Waymo previously began testing their cars in Tampa in December 2025 and the company announced that its fleet will soon go fully autonomous in San Diego, Las Vegas, and Denver.
