Fort Myers Beach’s independent investigation into its handling of public funds involves four grants and is expected to take about a month. The concerns surfaced during a routine review of grants, contracts and expenditures as part of the town’s budget process. Community Development Director Frankie Kropacek and Community Services Director Jeff Hauge remain on paid administrative leave while a third-party firm conducts the investigation. The town has not identified the grants, the amount of money involved or the specific concerns under review. Town Manager Will McKannay plans to present the findings and answer residents’ questions at a public town hall after the investigation is completed, WINK News reports.
