Organizers of Fort Lauderdale’s Souls to the Polls event altered plans for the primary election. While the traditional mile-long march from New Hope Baptist Church down Sistrunk Boulevard was canceled due to scheduling conflicts, a voter rally hosted by NAACP president Marsha Ellison and former state Sen. Chris Smith went on as planned. The nonpartisan gathering took place at Reverend Samuel Delevoe Memorial Park next to the African American Research Library and Cultural Center.
