Week 0 of South Florida High School Football wrapped up this past Friday, when one of the most highly anticipated matches of the fall resulted in a Miami Carol City 24-23 win over West Boca Raton. The matchup between the two teams had multiple key Miami Hurricanes recruits and targets, including five-star 2027 wide receiver Miami commit Nick Lennear.
Carol City’s offense started the game out pretty slow and couldn’t find Lennear out of the gate. He did everything he could to help the Chiefs in other ways, finding success on the defensive side of the ball, making big hits and plays.
In the fourth quarter, he found success by making a huge third-down play, catching a ball right over the middle of the defense, setting up Carol City for a field goal, which was unfortunately missed, forcing overtime. When you have a playmaker like Nick Lennear on a money-down you’re most likely going to target him. That is exactly what Carol City did as Lennear made one of the biggest plays in his career, catching a fade route in overtime and getting both feet down to win the ball game.
Here is what Lennear had to say about the amazing grab, catching up with CanesInSight’s Christian Procsia after the game: “I just told the coach put the game in my hands, i’m going come down with it every single time. And Coach gave me the shot,” he added. “We got a lot of people saying it was gonna be a blowout, 36-0. But we came out and showed them how Carol City plays football.”
He added that Carol City will win a High School National Championship this season, putting the Chiefs back on the map after the upset win. He also noted that the Hurricanes coaching staff got one in him: “Coach Cristobal, you got you one,” said Lennear.
Even though he didn’t receive many targets throughout the game, he still made the biggest play down the stretch, which is what playmakers like Lennear do.
