A man was arrested in connection to a 2021 murder that took place at the Sturgeon City Event Center in Jacksonville.
On Aug. 6, Christopher Marques Jackson was arrested for the murder that occurred in 2021.
Jackson was wanted for the alleged murder of Dominique Rhodes, 25, that happened in the early morning of Oct. 24, 2021 at the Sturgeon City Event Center, at 50 Court St., said Sarah Sinese, Jacksonville public safety public affairs coordinator.
Warrants were issued for Jackson’s arrest on June 26.
The U.S. Marshals Service arrested Jackson in Hampton, Georgia, and he is currently awaiting extradition back to Jacksonville, Sinese said.
“The Jacksonville Police Department is committed to the continuous investigation of homicides, regardless of when the death took place,” Sinese said. “We continue to follow up on leads, which are discovered or received during investigation.”
On Oct. 24, 2021 at about 1:12 a.m., Jacksonville police responded to calls of shots fired in the Sturgeon City area, on Court Street.
Upon arriving, police found Rhodes suffering from gunshot wounds, Sinese said.
First responders responded, and Rhodes was pronounced dead at the scene.
A second victim was found and identified as Alexis Ramsay, 18, of Jacksonville.
She was taken to Onslow Memorial Hospital by a private vehicle before officers arrived at the scene, Sinese said.
Ramsay was taken to ECU Medical Center in Greenville with serious injuries.
