As the new semester and school year approach, our campuses are about to be full of life once again. For the students filing in and out of classrooms every day, it can be a struggle to find good cafes and restaurants near the USF St. Pete campus that aren’t the dining hall.
While 4th Street and and downtown proper are packed full of food and drink, sometimes we prefer something walkable and right next to campus. These are some of our favorites. And if you don’t have a car? No problem, these are all walkable cafes and restaurants from campus. We’ll start with restaurants to keep you fed, and then cafes to keep you awake.
Tavern on Bayboro, tucked away by the USF campus at 120 6th Ave., S.
The Tavern at Bayboro: Located practically next door to campus, The Tavern is a classic USF St. Pete hangout. It’s been serving the campus community since 1982 and is known for its live music and famous grouper sandwiches. Their burgers and mozzarella sticks are also a must-try!
Taylor Sams: Taylor Sams is a great option when you’re craving breakfast or brunch (You can get breakfast without having to wake up at 7 a.m.) This scratch kitchen serves breakfast all day, along with coffee, sandwiches, and comfort-food favorites like the ‘Vicious Biscuit’.
The Library: For those looking for something slightly more upscale, the Library restaurant is a beautiful spot for students looking to switch up scenery. Serves breakfast, lunch, dinner, brunch, coffee and pastries; The coffee bar is open throughout the day.
Naked Farmer: If you’re trying to eat a little healthier without sacrificing flavor, add Naked Farmer to your list. It’s a little farther from campus, but still an easy walk downtown when you want something fresh.
Ford’s Garage: Ford’s Garage is the place to go when you want a classic burger-and-fries meal. The restaurant has an energetic vibe and unique decor for car lovers; it’s close to many of downtown St. Pete’s other attractions, so it’s an easy choice when you’re already exploring the area.
Cafes:
The Campus Grind: The Campus Grind is the beloved spot and great workplace for students. Open only on weekdays until 2 pm, they serve bagels, bevs, sammies & salads. The Campus Grind can be found behind the Tavern next to the USC parking lot.
Station house/ Bad Mother: Bad Mother cafe is a St. Pete staple for coffee lovers. About a 10-12 minute walk from campus, they have plenty of seating to get some work done while eating the tastiest pastries.
Kahwa Coffee: There’s a Kahwa coffee on just about every block in St. Pete. Inside of the USC building, Kahwa is the closest cafe to campus, so be prepared to get addicted. My personal go-to was the Ham & Swiss croissant sandwich and their iced teas. *This location accepts dining dollars.
Bean Wandering: Known for their canned iced lattes and matcha deliciousness, The Bean Wandering is an influencers’ dream cafe. The 2nd Street location of Bean Wandering is the closest one to campus.
Cafe Gala: Cafe Gala, located inside the Dali Museum, has beautiful aesthetics & is perfect for Instagram flicks! After eating, you can use your student ID to get into the Dali Museum for free.
