Tallahassee State College is hosting a STEM extravaganza that will get individuals of all ages up and “atom” during its 14th annual Tallahassee Science Festival this year.
The Nov. 8 downtown Tallahassee event at Kleman Plaza will run from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., featuring demonstrations, presentations and hands-on activities related to science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM). It will be free and open to the public.
“The Tallahassee Science Festival is a celebration of curiosity, creativity and innovation,” Anthony Jones, TSC dean of Library Services and Learning Commons – and director of the Tallahassee Science Festival – said in a prepared statement. “Each year, we see families, students and community members come together to explore how science shapes our world. It’s an incredible opportunity to inspire the next generation of thinkers and problem solvers.”
The Tallahassee Science Festival – an event that attracts between 2,500 to 3,000 individuals every year, according to a TSC spokesperson – began in 2012 and is part of the Science Festival Alliance, which is a science events community dedicated to cultivating a healthy relationship between science and society through festivals and other public events.
Over 80 exhibitors from across the Big Bend will be at this year’s festival as participants ignite their curiosity and get in their element while engaging in STEM experiences such as robots, drones, telescopes and marine life.
Also, local organizations and departments that will be on-site include those from TSC as well as Florida State and Florida A&M universities, Keiser University, Tallahassee Collegiate Academy, the University of Florida, the Gulf Specimen Marine Lab, Tally Robotics and the National Weather Service.
As the community event invites curious minds of all ages to experience the excitement of science, sponsors in support of the initiative this year include Trulight LLC, the TSC Foundation, the City of Tallahassee, the Challenger Learning Center and the FAMU-FSU College of Engineering.
