August 18, 2026 – The City of St. Petersburg and the University of South Florida have installed an industrial-sized composter at USF’s St. Petersburg campus “to process food waste and produce nutrient-rich compost for the community,” according to a prepared statement. The initiative will “start as a sustainability project to reduce food waste from the campus’ dining facility in the first year.” Over time, USF and the City expect to expand the effort into “a sustainable business that collects and processes waste from local partners.” For more information, visit this link.
