MIAMI (TNND) — A mother was arrested in Florida over the weekend after police said she left her 6-year-old son alone at a park to get food with a friend.
Elena Sexton, 41, of Texas, was charged with child neglect with no great bodily harm, according to Miami-Dade jail records.
A witness called police around 8:50 p.m. Saturday after finding the boy alone at Town Center Park, according to an arrest report obtained by NBC 6.
The witness told police the boy approached him and said his mother had left him and that he was scared and hadn’t eaten since breakfast, NBC 6 reported. The witness said the boy had been alone for nearly an hour.
The boy later told officers his mother had left him to get food with a friend and that he was scared and did not want to leave with a stranger, according to NBC 6, citing the arrest report.
Police later found Sexton walking back to the park and took her into custody, NBC 6 reported.
Sexton was booked into jail and appeared before a judge Monday, who set her bond at $2,500.
