A student was taken into custody after making a false threat involving a gun at a high school in Sunrise, leading to a lockdown on Tuesday, police said.
Sunrise Police said they received a 911 call about a student at Piper High School who was in possession of a firearm.
The school was placed on lockdown while the tip was investigated but the lockdown was lifted after it was determined the threat wasn’t credible, officials said.
Police haven’t released any other details about the student, including what charges they may face.
“We appreciate the cooperation of students, parents, staff, and our community as we worked to ensure everyone’s safety. We take all threats seriously and will continue to hold individuals accountable for making false threats,” the department said in a social media post.
