TALLAHASSEE, Fla. — Active adults in Tallahassee will have a chance to try everything from wildlife encounters to brewing tours this fall as the Tallahassee Senior Center’s 17th annual Lifelong Learning Extravaganza returns with more than 50 classes and events.
The Lifelong Learning Extravaganza, known as L3X, runs Sept. 2-26 and is open to adults ages 18 and older. Organizers say the schedule includes classes, workshops, recreational activities, field trips and special events designed to spark curiosity and encourage lifelong learning.
The public can preview this year’s lineup at one of two free L3X Preview Parties at the Maguire Center at Westminster Oaks, 1221 Commencement Cove. The first is Monday, Aug. 10, from 5:30-7 p.m. The second is Tuesday, Aug. 11, from 10-11:30 a.m. Guests can browse the course catalog, meet instructors and sponsors, ask questions and enjoy light refreshments. Attendance at a preview party is not required to participate in L3X classes.
“Lifelong learning opens the door to new experiences at every stage of life,” said Emily Starnes, the Tallahassee Senior Center’s Lifelong Learning Coordinator. “Whether you’re exploring a new hobby, learning more about a favorite subject or meeting new people, L3X offers something for everyone.”
Organizers said this year’s offerings span music, art, history, science, technology, literature, nature, food, travel and culture. Examples include North Florida Wildlife Tour & Animal Encounter, DEEP Brewing Tour and Tasting, Handwoven Bookmark Workshop with Leslie Cohen, Fashion of Goodwood through the Years, and Tree to Tree Adventures at the Tallahassee Museum.
L3X begins with an opening dinner Wednesday, Sept. 2, featuring Shakespeare Man, an interactive performance by Phil Croton of the Southern Shakespeare Company.
Classes are offered throughout the day, with some evening and weekend options. Three events are free to attend, while most classes range from $8 to $30, with a limited number of specialty programs priced higher. Registration requires full payment, and refunds will only be issued if a class is canceled. Early registration is recommended because some sessions may fill quickly.
The online course catalog will be available Tuesday, Aug. 11, at TallahasseeSeniorFoundation.org/L3X. Registration opens for Tallahassee Senior Center Foundation members Wednesday, Aug. 12, at 9 a.m., and general registration begins Friday, Aug. 14, at 9 a.m. Information on becoming a Foundation member is available at TallahasseeSeniorFoundation.org/Membership/.
