Hillsborough County Commissioner Ken Hagan said on local radio station WDAE’s “The Pat & Aaron Show” Tuesday morning that definitive votes on the Rays’ ballpark proposal by Hillsborough County and the city of Tampa are “close to being scheduled,” according to Nicolas Villamil of the TAMPA BAY TIMES. Hagan added, “Our goal is to try and schedule the necessary meetings for next week.” Hagan said that he was told by Rays CEO Ken Babby on Monday that the team and city “have reached a point where a vote can soon be scheduled.” He maintained that “the City Council will vote first.” Villamil noted Hillsborough commissioners “usually meet every other Wednesday, while City Council meets nearly every Thursday.” Hagan has previously said that he “could call a special County Commission meeting for a Rays vote on a Friday following a potential city vote.” Villamil wrote next Thursday is the final City Council meeting in August, which is “when Hagan and Babby have emphasized a vote needs to occur” (TAMPA BAY TIMES, 8/18).
