Hollywood City Commissioner Caryl Shuham defeated three other candidates Tuesday to become the next Broward County commissioner for the seat vacated by Beam Furr, who could not run again because of term limits.
Shuham’s district covers the southeast portion of the county, from just north of Interstate 595 to the Miami-Dade County line and from the beach to just east of Florida’s Turnpike.
Shuham won nearly 42% of the vote in the four-way Democratic primary, which was open to all voters because no other candidates ran for the office.
Coming in second was candidate Eugen Bold, with less than 28%. Bold previously was a director of policy for former County Commissioner Tim Ryan.
The other two candidates were former Deerfield Beach Mayor A.J. Ryan and Hallandale Beach businessman Jeffrey Jones.
Shuham takes office in November.
