Camping World Stadium’s $400M renovation project is meant to continue making the stadium “an attractive option for hosting events,” and Florida Citrus Sports CEO Steve Hogan “hopes to see” college football kickoff games return to the area, according to Matt Murschel of the ORLANDO SENTINEL. Camping World Stadium has hosted several neutral-site openers in the past and there are “more than a handful” of neutral-site games in college football this season. Florida Citrus Sports is also “actively pursuing hosting the annual Army-Navy football game,” a game that typically has been played on the East Coast, but never in the South. Orlando “previously explored a bid,” but lost out to NFL sites such as MetLife Stadium and Lincoln Financial Field. With the bidding process set to begin again, Hogan “believes the latest renovations could help the city secure a future spot.” He said, “I love that game. It would probably fit better in the range of 2030, 2031 or 2032.” Murschel wrote Hogan also “wants Orlando to be a player if the College Football Playoff expands.” Another “possible opportunity” is the Football Championship Subdivision National Championship Game. It is currently held at FirstBank Stadium at Vanderbilt (ORLANDO SENTINEL, 8/18).
