Possible sewage line break snarls traffic on John Young Parkway in Hunter’s Creek
ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. —
One southbound lane of John Young Parkway in Hunter’s Creek was back open by the time of this writing after crews worked to resolve a possible sewer line break at Teal Point Drive on Wednesday.
It was around 4 p.m. when Orange County Fire Rescue got a call about water in the roadway at the intersection. It turns out it was a possible sewer line break, firefighters said.
The break was in the middle of the road and went completely across John Young Parkway near a shopping area.
When firefighters arrived, crews observed the roadway was actually fluctuating and that the pavement had risen.
For citizen safety and to avoid the development of a sinkhole, both northbound and southbound lanes of John Young Parkway were shut down for several hours. Traffic was diverted to Town Center Boulevard.
“Very stressful because after a day, a whole day of work, to face this kind of thing it’s really stressful,” said Marcos Cavalcante, a motorist.
Around 7 p.m., crews did open up two southbound lanes. At the time of this report, the water company and drainage employees were still working to fix the issue, which appears to be a break in a 24-inch pipe.
WESH 2 News went to the scene, where it appeared a brownish liquid was coming up and out of the intersection.
The cause of the possible sewage line break has not yet been disclosed.
