We’ve hosted Super Bowls, NCAA Final Fours, and roughly one thousand lightning strikes per year. And now, on Saturday, September 19, the city is adding yet another feather to its increasingly impressive cap: for the very first time ever, the Red Bull Dance Your Style National Final USA is coming to the Tampa Convention Center (333 S Franklin St). It’s going to be an absolute spectacle.

If you haven’t heard of Red Bull Dance Your Style, here’s the deal. It’s a 1-on-1, all-styles street dance competition where 16 of the nation’s best freestyle dancers square off in a bracket format, battling to mystery tracks selected live with absolutely zero warning. No choreography. No rehearsed routines. Hip-hop, house, popping, locking, flexing. If it moves a room, it’s fair game. Just raw instinct, musicality, and the kind of spontaneous physical creativity that most of us gave up the second we realized we couldn’t moonwalk without pulling a hamstring. And here’s the twist: there are no traditional judges. The crowd decides who wins by voting for their favorite dancers. It’s democracy, but significantly more entertaining.

This is also, notably, the first time Tampa has hosted the national final. You’ll want to hold onto that. The 2026 season toured Los Angeles, Las Vegas, Brooklyn, Kansas City, Atlanta, Philadelphia, Salt Lake City, and more before landing right here in the Bay. Tampa got chosen as the destination where the entire season comes to a close, and it’ll also host a full weekend of community programming celebrating Southeast dance culture leading up to the main event. That’s a big deal.

Sixteen dancers, including Motiv Crew’s Marlee Hightower, along with heavy hitters like Kida the Great and Kidd the Monster, will take the stage. Hightower is holding a wildcard spot with her eyes locked firmly on Zurich. One of them walks away as the U.S. National Champion. That winner then hops a flight to represent America at the Red Bull Dance Your Style World Final in Zurich, Switzerland on October 24. It’s the kind of stakes that make your palms sweat just thinking about it.

Local hosts K-Sole and Myverse will keep the energy dialed in throughout the night, and Tampa’s own DJ Hans handles the music, which is particularly interesting since the dancers won’t know what’s playing until it drops. Imagine building your entire career around this one moment and then just… waiting to hear what song you’re about to interpret in front of a packed arena. Respect.
