Lake Nona West could soon add another national retailer to its lineup as the shopping center expands to accommodate a big-box retailer, anticipated to be Home Depot.
Tavistock Development Co. filed a Specific Parcel Master Plan this month with the city for a 140,000-square-foot hardware store on the vacant land just east of the recently opened lifestyle center.
Only two retailers in the hardware/home improvement space operate big-box stores in that size range, and Lake Nona already has a Lowe’s Home Improvement store nearby on Narcoossee Road. That leaves Home Depot, where the closest store is about 10 miles away in the Lee Vista area.

The Atlanta-based home improvement giant has been in a steady expansion mode, opening 23 new stores over the last two years, including three in Florida. The DIY and home improvement retail giant has more than 2,300 stores in the United States, Canada and Mexico, plus more than 500,000 employees.
The site plan from LJA Engineering shows a single big-box retail building of up to 150,000 square feet on 15.6 acres, with 570 parking spaces. While the application specified that the project would be a hardware store, the site plan doesn’t delineate between indoor space and an outdoor garden center. It also lacks the design upgrades featured in Lake Nona West, such as the colorful murals by Chalk & Brush or the EV chargers from Mercedes-Benz High-Power Charging,.both of which could be added later.

The Lake Nona West store would be the third new Home Depot in the development pipeline in Central Florida. Polk County has approved development plans for a new store on U.S. 27 in Davenport. The property is a former orange grove owned by Citrus Enterprises Inc. The Home Depot building will be 107,519 square feet, and the garden center will be 28,113 square feet. The site will include 437 parking spaces.
The Home Depot also filed plans in March for a new store in Horizon West on Schofield Road, west of S.R. 429 on the Lake County border.
At 405,000 square feet, Lake Nona West is one of the largest new retail centers in the state of Florida. After two years of construction, the first store, Home Sense, opened in May. It was followed by a series of openings throughout the summer, including the center’s anchor, a 150,000-square-foot Target Superstore, on July 26. Other big-box stores now open include Barnes & Noble and Total Wine & More. The following stores will open later this year: Dick’s Sporting Goods, Golf Galaxy, Nordstrom Rack and Sephora.
