PORT ST. LUCIE, Fla. (CBS12) — Port St. Lucie police arrested a man early Thursday morning after executing a search warrant at a home as part of an ongoing investigation.

At around 6 a.m. Thursday officers with the Port St. Lucie Police Department served a search warrant at a residence in the 900 block of SW Jaslo Avenue. During the operation, Virgil Jason Vinz was taken into custody on an arrest warrant without injury.

Police said Vinz is charged with five counts of sexual activity with a minor, a second-degree felony under Florida law, and six counts of contributing to the delinquency or dependency of a child, a first-degree misdemeanor.

The police response drew attention from nearby residents, some of whom reported hearing sounds they believed were gunfire. According to the department, the noises were not gunshots but Noise Flash Diversionary Devices, commonly used by SWAT teams during certain tactical operations.

Authorities said the devices were deployed by the Port St. Lucie Police Department SWAT Team while officers carried out the warrant.

The department emphasized that the case remains an active and ongoing investigation. Additional information is expected to be released when authorities determine it is appropriate.
