Butler County first responders recover body from Great Miami River

Matthew DietzHAMILTON, Ohio —

First responders in Butler County recovered a body from the Great Miami River, near the Hamilton dam, on Thursday.

The Butler County Sheriff’s Office said they received a call around 11:40 a.m. from someone reporting a body was in the Great Miami River.

Members of the Butler County Sheriff’s Office Emergency Response Services Team responded and located the body.

Investigators haven’t released the name of the person who was found dead and it’s not clear how they went under the water.

“Never underestimate the power of moving water. The river may look calm on the surface, but strong currents and undertows can quickly pull a person under and make it extremely difficult to recover. If you are going to be in or around the river, always wear a properly fitted life jacket. It can save your life,” Butler County Sheriff Richard Jones said.

An investigation into the recovery remains ongoing.
