Cape Coral City Council voted 6-1 to allow the Cape Coral Rowing Club to use Tropicana Park, resolving years of uncertainty over a permanent home for the organization. Council had been scheduled Aug. 19 to consider Crystal Lake Park as an alternative, but council member Jennifer Nelson-Lastra moved to reconsider Tropicana Park after rowers raised concerns about the Crystal Lake proposal. The city originally approved space for the club at Tropicana Park in 2020, but neighborhood opposition and safety concerns delayed the move. Under the latest plan, the club will be responsible for installing an 8-foot chain-link fence and hedges around its area at the park, WINK News reports.
