JACKSONVILLE, Onslow County — A man charged with murder in a nearly five-year-old Jacksonville shooting will remain in the Onslow County Jail without bond.
Christopher Marques Jackson, 26, appeared in Onslow County District Court Friday in connection with the 2021 shooting death of 25-year-old Dominique Rhodes.
Jackson received no bond during the hearing.
The charge stems from a shooting outside the Sturgeon City Event Center on Court Street in the early morning hours of Oct. 24, 2021.
Jacksonville police responded to reports of shots fired around 1:12 a.m.
Officers arrived and found Rhodes suffering from a gunshot wound outside the event center. First responders attempted to help him, but Rhodes was pronounced dead at the scene.
A second person, then-18-year-old Alexis Ramsay of Jacksonville, was also injured in the shooting, according to police. Ramsay was taken by private vehicle to Onslow Memorial Hospital and later transferred to Vidant Medical Center in Greenville with serious injuries.
The case remained under investigation for years before an arrest warrant was issued for Jackson on June 26. The warrant alleges Jackson killed Rhodes.
Jacksonville police said Jackson was arrested Aug. 6 by the U.S. Marshals Service in Hampton, Georgia.
Following his return to Onslow County, Jackson appeared in court Friday and was ordered held without bond.
Jacksonville police have previously said the department remains committed to investigating homicides regardless of how much time has passed.
