Pop-up showers and storms to start the weekend for Tallahassee, the Big Bend and South Georgia

  • August 22, 2026

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WCTV) – The weekend is looking pretty good, overall! Scattered rain and thunderstorms are going to be possible anytime today,

Tracking weekend showers

The best chance of rain will be after 2 p.m. However, some showers should flare up early this morning. So as you head out the door, just keep the rain jacket handy.

For most, we stay rain-free until the afternoon and evening, when storms fire up. Gusty winds and heavy downpours with frequent lightning during the strongest storms.

It will be hot until showers arrive, with highs reaching the low to mid-90s. NOT everyone will get the rain once again today and it will NOT be a washout of a day.

Drier tomorrow

Some drier air works in tomorrow. Although there may be a straggling shower for the eastern Big Bend in the morning, most showers should be limited for most of the day. I am expecting partly to mostly sunny skies and a hot day with the thermometer reaching the mid-90s again. Similar conditions for your Monday.

Next week

Tuesday through the end of the week looks like a more typical summer afternoon. Morning sun and hot in the afternoon with pop-up scattered storms. Highs in the low to mid 90s. Morning lows in the low 70s.

There are three areas of interest. Two of which are in the Northern Atlantic and seem to pose little to no threat, other than higher waves for some shipping routes in the Atlantic.

I am keeping my eyes on the Eastern Atlantic where a tropical wave is expected to come off the coast of Africa early in the week. Computer models do have agreement on some organization. How much is still too early to discern. It will be something to watch, but certainly NOTHING to be worried about.
