MITCHELL COUNTY, N.C. (FOX Carolina) – Mitchell County Sheriff’s Office said a Florida teen is accused of making threatening calls to Mitchell County Middle and Elementary schools.
Around 12:30 p.m. on Friday, the schools received six phone calls that started as vulgar comments and later included comments about “shooting the school up,” according to the sheriff’s office.
The sheriff’s office said the Mitchell County school resource officers, Mitchell County Sheriff’s Office Investigative Team, North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation (SBI) and the FBI launched an investigation using a phone number associated with the calls.
According to the sheriff’s office, the investigation led to a male juvenile from Okeechobee, Florida, being found and interviewed. He confessed to making the phone calls.
At this time, the sheriff’s office said there is no known connection between the juvenile and Mitchell County.
The sheriff’s office said there is currently no credible threat involving this incident at Mitchell County Schools.
