SOUTHWEST MIAMI-DADE, FLA. (WSVN) – The YMCA of South Florida celebrated the grand opening of a new aquatic center in Southwest Miami-Dade.
The event took place at the Barbara and Philip Wong Aquatic Center on Saturday.
The center features a zero-depth entry pool to provide accessible swim lessons and address high child drowning rates in South Florida through water safety education.
“This is long overdue, we’ve been wanting an aquatic center for many many years and we did it. We did it, and it’s a beautiful, beautiful aquatic center with all kinds of programs and services, but primarily our number one goal is to teach kids how to swim.” said Sheryl Woods, the President and CEO of YMCA of South Florida.
The project aligns with the Zero Drownings Miami-Dade Initiative, which aims to make swimming lessons available to all children.
