JACKSONVILLE, N.C. (WITN) – The Onslow County Sheriff’s Office is reminding drivers to expect traffic during a public viewing for longtime Jacksonville Lieutenant Officer XY Brown.

Jacksonville police say those who wish to honor Lt. XY Brown on Sunday evening are welcome to attend Brown’s public viewing and celebration of life.

Sunday’s viewing will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. at Sandy Run Missionary Baptist Church on Hargett Street in Jacksonville.

A celebration of life will follow at 11 a.m. on Monday at River of Life Church on Gum Branch Road.

Brown will then be laid to rest at Coastal Carolina Veterans’ Cemetery on Montford Landing Road.

Drivers should expect some traffic delays during the services. Onslow County deputies say any information regarding impacts to local traffic will be released if needed.

Brown retired from the Jacksonville Police Department in December 2025 at 98 years old, after 68 years of serving the community.

He was the department’s oldest officer and was believed to be the oldest serving police officer in the country.
