MIAMI, Okla. — A routine patrol stop unraveled into a police pursuit and arrest Saturday evening and ended with the recovery of a stolen vehicle out of Texas, according to Miami Police Department.
Saturday, a Miami PD officer attempted to stop a speeding vehicle on North Main Street. The driver allegedly refused to stop and fled north through Miami.
During the pursuit, police say the driver weaved in and out of traffic, ran stop lights and, at one point, drove in the wrong lane. The pursuit continued into North Miami, where the driver lost control of the vehicle and crashed into a light pole. The driver then ran away from the wrecked vehicle on foot but was located and arrested a short time later.
Police identified the suspect as Bryant Anthony Haynes, of Lockhart, Okla.
Haynes is being held in the Ottawa County Jail, and Miami PD says he is expected to face multiple charges. The vehicle was reported stolen out of Bastrop County, Texas, according to police.
Miami PD credited proactive patrol, officer awareness and assistance from the community for helping bring the incident to an end. Police also thanked residents who share information and support officers working to protect Miami and surrounding communities.
