Foodborne illnesses infect about one in six people every year, according to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration.

This summer, companies have pulled products ranging from lettuce to jalapeños and blueberries off shelves, warning of potential Cyclospora, Salmonella, and E. coli outbreaks.

Dr. Daniel Egan, an infectious diseases physician at Orlando Health, joined WESH 2 to explain the key differences between Salmonella, E. coli, and Cyclospora, noting that the signs and symptoms vary.

Dr. Egan’s biggest tips are practicing supportive care, for example, staying hydrated, and handwashing.
