A man was killed after being shot in Fort Lauderdale over the weekend after a dispute, and the alleged shooter was not arrested, police said.
According to Fort Lauderdale police, officers on Saturday arrived at the 2300 block of Northwest Ninth Court after receiving reports of a shooting.
At the scene, they found a man who was shot, and officers performed life-saving measures until the man was taken to the Broward Health Medical Center, where he succumbed to his injuries.
He was identified as 59-year-old Alrick Francis.
Police said that they detained the shooter, but he was not arrested as they wait for the outcome of a “Stand your ground” investigation.
NBC6 spoke with Arin McNair, who manages the construction site. He said his father is the contractor.
“So we’re building a one-story house, and this is maybe our fifth out of the project we’re doing,” he said.
McNair said he didn’t know who was involved in the shooting, but rushed to the scene when he heard.
“My dad kind of told me there was police down here, so get there fast, he said. “And I just ran over here, and see what was going on.”
Across the street from the construction, a home was riddled with bullets.
NBC6 cameras captured two bullet holes, one at the front door and another in the front window.
McNair said he’s just waiting to find out what happened.
“We just got to go based off of the information we received,” he said. “So, hey, we’ll see, getting the information, what happens going forward.”
