MONTGOMERY, Ala. (WSFA) – Alabama State University President Quinton Ross Jr. is releasing the name of a student who died over the weekend.
Ross said Ava Walters, a second-year Health Information Management major from Fort Lauderdale, Florida, died following “an incident” at an off-campus university facility on Sunday.
The university said emergency medical personnel responded to an incident and pronounced Walters deceased.
Details on the incident were not clear. The investigation has been turned over to the Montgomery Police Department’s Criminal Investigation Division.
MPD has confirmed only that it’s investigating after officers responded to the1600 block of Interstate Park Drive where they found a woman who was deceased.
The university said its thoughts and prayers are with the student’s family and loved ones.
