Community members said their final goodbyes to Lt. James XY Brown, a beloved policeman, friend, and staple within the Jacksonville community.
News 12 was there this morning as friends, families and neighbors joined in prayer to say goodbye.
It was a morning full of fellowship and love as the community joined in saying goodbye to Lt. Brown. But this was not a sad day, rather a celebration of the wonderful life that Brown lived.
The crosswalk at Henderson and Elm streets has seen thousands of tiny footsteps over the years, many under the safeguard of Lt. James XY Brown.
And on Monday, Lt. Brown crossed the path one last time.
But before that, the River of Life Church welcomed the community for a morning of reflection and fellowship.
Where family, friends and those who worked alongside him reflected on their memories with Brown.
I remember him learning how to double-dutch, and he brought it down here and taught the kids how to double-dutch because we only knew how to jump with one rope.They moved him one time from that crosswalk, and I’m told those parents went down to the City Council, and they got Brown back in no time.
His memory living on through those he impacted.
I’m so grateful that he watched over my girls when they were younger. They’re 36 and 40… He’s going to be greatly missed, but we thank God for his longevity and his service in the community of Jacksonville, North Carolina.
A service that will not soon be forgotten.
I remember him as being a dancing policeman directing traffic at the road.Rest in peace, Lt. Brown, and thank you for your service.
So many amazing memories were shared today, from public officials like Jacksonville Mayor Sammy Phillips to those who worked alongside Lt. Brown years ago.
Brown was laid to rest this afternoon at the Coastal Carolina State Veterans Cemetery.
