TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WCTV) – New details emerged Monday morning regarding a crash that involved a Leon County Sheriff’s Office vehicle and left one pedestrian dead.
The crash happened just after 10:30 p.m. Friday in the area of West Pensacola Street and South Ausley Road, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.
Over the weekend, FHP confirmed to WCTV that the vehicle involved in the crash was a marked LCSO vehicle.
An investigation revealed that the vehicle was traveling west in the outside lane of West Pensacola Street, approaching the intersection of South Ausley Lane.
A 46-year-old woman was walking north across the east and westbound lanes on West Pensacola Street.
Moments later, troopers said the pedestrian walked across the westbound lanes into the path of the vehicle.
“The traffic light was green for west and eastbound travel,” FHP later clarified to WCTV Monday afternoon.
As a result, the vehicle collided with her just before coming to a controlled stop.
After the incident occurred, the pedestrian was transported to Tallahassee Memorial Hospital. However, she was later pronounced dead by staff.
In a statement shared with WCTV Monday afternoon, the sheriff’s office said “It’s a tragic incident any time someone loses their life. Our thoughts and prayers are with deceased individual and we’re making sure our reserve deputy receives wellness support.”
