Stuart fires city manager and votes to rehire predecessor
STUART, Fla. —
The city of Stuart has fired city manager Michael Giardino and voted to rehire his predecessor, Michael Mortell, during a meeting last night.
This marks the second firing of a city manager in Stuart this year. Mortell, who was fired without cause last year, was rehired with a 3-1 vote by the city commission.
One commissioner brought up past investigations against Mortell.
However, others argued his record proves he is fit to come back.
The reason for Giardino’s firing has not yet been disclosed, but it is effective immediately.
Community Services Director Jim Chrulski was appointed as the interim city manager while Mortell reviews the offer.
