PLANTATION, Fla. — Darius Parrish had two pending felony cases in Broward County when police officers arrested him on Monday night after a police chase that included him driving into a shallow canal in Plantation, records show.
Police officers were searching for a suspect who was wearing a blue Nike shirt and blue jeans and released a be-on-the-look-out, or BOLO, alert on Monday night before the chase, according to police scanner traffic.
“Plantation PD assisted Sunrise and Lauderhill PD in the attempted apprehension of a fleeing burglary suspect,” a police officer wrote, according to the arrest report, which listed his last known location as Northwest 114 Avenue and West Sunrise Boulevard.
With a white 2020 Mazda LX 5 partially submerged in murky water in the dark of night, Parrish, 30, jumped out and ran away near Hiatus Road and Sunrise Boulevard, according to police.
“It never happened here before … For us, it was a big surprise,” said John Bell, who saw the Broward Sheriff’s Office helicopter with a spotlight that searched his neighborhood.
Plantation police officers also searched for Parrish in the area of North University Drive and Cleary Boulevard. A witness said police officers ordered area residents to stay inside.
“A lighted perimeter was established; Plantation FD, K9, BSO Aviation, and Real Time Crime Center (RTCC) units were deployed to assist,” a police officer wrote, according to the arrest report.
Parrish attempted to break into a house while he was trying to get away from BSO deputies and Plantation police officers, according to police.
“RTCC advised that they received live pings from an ankle monitor subject … who was in the area of 901 Northwest Old Hiatus Road,” a police officer wrote, according to the arrest report.
A woman told police officers that she was watching TV in her living room when she saw Parrish “slide open the screen to the slider door … peeked through the slider glass and then walked towards to the adjacent slider glass door,” according to the police report.
Plantation police officers arrested Parrish, of Fort Lauderdale, in the woman’s patio, and found a watch that had been stolen in Sunrise, according to the arrest report.
Police officers reported taking Parrish to HCA before taking him to jail. Inmate records show Parrish was at the Broward County Main Jail on Tuesday afternoon in Fort Lauderdale without bond.
Parrish faces 17 charges in 3 cases in Broward
With the two pending felony cases prosecutors filed in March and the new case filed on Tuesday, Parrish faced 17 charges in Broward County.
Prosecutors filed a case against Parrish on March 17 after Oakland Park police officers arrested him on March 16.
Parrish faced two charges: Aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, a third-degree felony; and aggravated battery with a deadly weapon, a first-degree felony.
Parrish was released on a $12,000 bond, posted on March 17.
Prosecutors filed a case against Parrish on March 26 after Fort Lauderdale police officers arrested him on March 25. The case was for alleged offenses on Feb. 14, Feb. 21, March 2, March 5, March 19, and March 24.
Parrish faced 11 charges: Two counts of dealing in stolen property, a second-degree felony; six counts of burglary of an unoccupied conveyance, a third-degree felony; two counts of false verification of ownership to a pawnbroker, a third-degree felony; and second-degree grand theft.
Court records show a warrant was issued for his arrest on April 27. Police officers re-arrested him on April 28, and he posted bond on June 16 with an order of house arrest with an electronic monitor. But, he was allowed to travel to Naples on Aug. 1.
Prosecutors filed a case on Tuesday after the police chase on Monday night.
Parrish faced four charges: Two counts of burglary of an occupied dwelling, a second-degree felony; resisting arrest, a first-degree misdemeanor; and third-degree grand theft.
Broward County Circuit Judge Michael Rothschild was presiding over the two pending cases. Broward County Circuit Judge Peter Holden was set to preside over the new case.
