Martin County man faces DUI, fleeing charges after SUV slams into church

MARTIN COUNTY, Fla. (CBS12) — A man in Martin County who crashed into a church is accused of driving under the influence and fleeing from police, according to the Martin County Sheriff’s Office.

MCSO says that on Monday, Geremias Pascual, 28, was seen swerving onto the grass while traveling northbound on SW Washington Avenue through a residential neighborhood. Despite deputies’ attempts to stop him, Pascual simply wouldn’t stop.

Eventually, MCSO deputies used a PIT maneuver to slow down the SUV Pascual was traveling in, but that didn’t work either. In fact, Pascual only started going faster after the attempted PIT maneuver.

Pascual then crashed into a tree, a power pole, and the side of a local church, MCSO says. The damage to the church destroyed its air-conditioning unit and caused thousands of dollars in damages.

He was then ordered by deputies to step out of the vehicle and placed under arrest. Pascual is being charged with fleeing and eluding, DUI, and four counts of criminal mischief/damage to property.
