Fishermen in the area spotted the body and remained on scene until officers arrived. The PSLPD Marine Unit recovered the body, described only as an adult male, according to the news release.

The identity and cause of death remain undetermined, and police are asking anyone with information or video footage to contact Detective Mark Woodruff at (772) 871-5001 or Treasure Coast Crimestoppers at (800) 273-8477.

Just days earlier, on November 4, the St. Lucie County Sheriff’s Office (SLCSO) launched a homicide investigation after a man’s body was found in the Taylor Creek Spillway near 1800 North U.S. Highway 1.

Deputies from the Patrol Operations Bureau and the SLCSO Marine Unit responded around 10:30 a.m. and recovered the body of a Black man with dreadlocks. Detectives from the SLCSO Criminal Investigations Division are leading this case, which remains active.

SLCSO said it is working to confirm the victim’s identity and are urging anyone with a missing loved one matching the description to come forward. Tips can be submitted to the SLCSO at (772) 462-7300 or via email at CrimeTips@stluciesheriff.com.

While the two cases are not currently believed to be connected, the discoveries have raised concerns among residents and prompted increased attention.
