Three suspects, including the driver of a vehicle that was stopped when a grappler was used during a chase in Fort Lauderdale, were identified on Wednesday, police said.
Dewontres McCray, 42, is facing several charges, including grand theft, fleeing and eluding law enforcement and burglary of an occupied dwelling.
The two other suspects were identified as 4-year-old Claudin Butler and 35-year-old Antonio Retcho.
Butler and Retcho’s charges were not released.
According to Fort Lauderdale Police, on Tuesday, at around 11:30 a.m., an officer found a vehicle that was involved in a felony in Pompano Beach.
Police said the vehicle had previously fled from Broward Sheriff’s Office deputies.
When the officer tried to do a traffic stop, the vehicle didn’t stop, and the pursuit ensued.
During the pursuit, BSO assisted FLPD from the ground and the air, and a police grappler was used on the vehicle, ending the chase in the 1600 block of West Sunrise Boulevard.
After the vehicle was stopped, three suspects got out of the car but were arrested.
Fort Lauderdale Police started using what is known as a police grappler bumper last year.
The device releases a net from the front of the police cruiser and wraps around the back tire of a fleeing car.
Police said the goal is to potentially stop a suspect whose trying to flee without endangering the public.
